Fedor to Fight Tim Sylvia!!!Sherdog.com
Top ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko (Pictures) will fight Tim Sylvia (Pictures) on July 19. The Russian mixed martial arts champion confirmed the bout to Sherdog.com on Tuesday.
"[Sylvia] is a good fighter, a strong fighter, the former UFC heavyweight champion, which is important," Emelianenko said via telephone from Stary Oskol, Russia. "I am looking forward to fighting him and training hard for this fight."
While Emelianenko was short on details, Sherdog.com has learned through sources close to the negotiations that Fedor-Sylvia would headline a card tentatively scheduled for the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, the home base of HDNet Fights.
HDNet Fights CEO Andrew Simon declined to comment on the report, however sources indicate the bout will air on the Mark Cuban-owned network and is rumored to be promoted by Affliction, a clothing brand closely tied to MMA.
Affliction had been connected with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, however a June 28 Las Vegas date has since been discarded.
Emelianenko, a 31-year-old sambo practitioner, has faced criticism from media and fans alike after a string of fights against less than stellar competition. Sylvia would represent the Russian's first ranked opponent since his unanimous decision over Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic nearly three years ago.
Widely regarded as the top heavyweight fighter in the world, Emelianenko (27-1-0, 1 NC) was recently freed from a letter of intent binding him to the now-defunct M-1 Global promotion.
Sylvia, 32, is coming off a submission loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (Pictures) in February at UFC 81. After a spirited performance that saw him batter his foe at will with strikes, Sylvia (24-4-0) eventually fell victim to a classic Nogueira come-from-behind performance and succumbed to a guillotine choke early in the third round.
Fastest Knockout In UFC History???
Reported By: Mike Kneuer of ViolenceIsTheAnswer.com

Broomfield, CO- UFC Fight Night 13 was the scene of the fastest knockout in UFC history, but it will probably go down with an asterisk. James Irvin won by TKO over Houston Alexander a mere 8 seconds into the first round, but the TKO was surrounded by great controversy.
Irvin caught Alexander with a superman punch which knocked him down, then proceeded to hit him 2 more times when he was down until referee Steve Mazzagatti jumped in and stopped the fight. Houston Alexander immediately jumped up in disbelief that the fight was stopped and protested vehemently. Mazzagatti has been known in the past to call premature endings to fights. Alexander was extremely upset and it showed during his post fight interview where he stated "I've been hit harder by my kids." His frustration is understood, but his lack of class is inexcusable.
Irvin saw the fight called fairly. "He wasn't even looking at me," Irvin said. "I clipped him and he went down and I looked at his eyes and he was looking off to the right. He was bleeding out of both of his nostrils. He wasn't even looking at me. The third punch when he was down was the best punch of all of them."

Fedor Splits with M1 Global
Reported By: MMAWeekly.com

M-1
Global on Friday announced that it has come to an agreement with the
manager of Fedor Emelianenko, Vadim Finkelchtein, to release the former
Pride champion from his contractual obligations to the fledgling
company. The move will once again make Emelianenko one of the most
sought after free agents in mixed martial arts.
“There
is so much going on in the world of mixed martial arts right now that
we have decided it is in our best interest if our company and Fedor go
our separate ways,” said M-1 Global President and CEO Monte Cox.
“During
the past six months the landscape of MMA, especially in the U.S., has
dramatically changed. The sport continues to gain mainstream acceptance
and we believe we will be in a better position to capitalize on these
new opportunities with this agreement.”
There
has been much speculation over recent weeks that there has been a
growing amount of discontent between the American contingent of M-1
Global and Emelianenko’s management team. This recent parting of ways
only seems to confirm that speculation.
Aside
from the separation between the two parties, M-1 Global will also
undergo a name change. Emelianenko’s management also owns the MFC M-1
Mix-Fight Championship.
Cox
stated that the former M-1 Global wants to avoid any confusion between
the two companies. “Because Finkelchtein already uses the ‘M-1’ name in
Russia and Europe, we have mutually decided to avoid any confusion
between our two organizations. Shortly, M-1 Global will announce a new
name for its operations and its first event.”
In a recent interview with Sherdog. com,
Cox indicated that there was too much of a philosophical difference
between the American and European factions of M-1 Global. And after
several false starts, he believes that it would not have been
profitable to move forward with Emelianenko under the current situation.
Cox indicated that the promotion, under its new name, is looking at a possible June 14 date in Chicago for its first event.
